Lake Vico: Sport & Natural Reserve
The
region of Lazio, it’s territory, includes 5 Provinces (Rome, Viterbo, Rieti,
Latina and Frosinone ).
It has
the Tyrrhenian See to the west and borders Tuscany, Umbria, Abruzzo, Molise and
Campania. Lazio is the Italian region richest in rivers and lakes.
Our
journey around the lakes of Lazio starts with those in the Province of Rome;
the volcanic Lake Vico, and the rich food and wine traditions of the area,
ideal spot for outdoor activities. The enchanting “ small lake “ of Vico, in
the green scenery of Natural Reserve, in
the Etruscan land near Viterbo.
Lake
Vico: to the joy of fishermen, the waters of the lake are rich in fish such as
the pike that can reach considerable sizes, the whitefish, tench, perch and the
eel. As well as fishing, windsurfing, canoeing, trekking on foot, horseback or
on mountain-bike, birdwatching, are all popular.
The
Nature Reserve is well equipped and several paths are sign-posted, one of which
is even suitable for the blind, with indications in Braille.
Cyclists
are recommended not to miss the round-the-lake route. The most interesting
route on foot , to the summit of Mount Venere, to the Pozzo del Diavolo and to
the nearby archeological digs.
